FAQ

This is the most commonly asked question that we receive, especially since there is such a stigma attached to needles. To put the invasiveness of acupuncture into perspective, the diameter of an average acupuncture needle is about two times larger than the diameter of a human hair and ten times smaller than the diameter of an injection needle.

A well trained and licensed acupuncturist is able to perform the necessary services without inducing pain. There are certain points where you may feel a dull or heavy sensation, but this is a good sign that there is a therapeutic response occurring.

Your well-being is our main priority and we would not leave you alone in the treatment room unless you are completely pain free, comfortable and safe!

The human body is capable of healing itself in many ways, but sometimes it just needs a little help. When acupuncture needles are inserted into the body, they send a signal to the brain that triggers the body’s natural healing mechanism. This mechanism directs blood flow to the area of pain or dysfunction. Acupuncture directly increases circulation, reduces inflammation and stimulates the release of endorphins, a substance that the body naturally produces to combat pain.

To sum it all up, acupuncture, along with the many other modalities used at Synergy Acupuncture, is excellent at relieving pain, relaxing tense muscles, releasing pressure from joints and nerves, and reducing stress.

Acupuncture treatment plans are personalized and each individual will have a different expected timeline. During your initial consultation, we will offer a recommendation based on the diagnosis and treatment requirements.

For more recent conditions, spanning some days to a few weeks, acupuncture works faster than conditions that are chronic and have been around for several months or years. It is not uncommon to feel the benefits of acupuncture after one or two sessions, however, it may require dedication and consistently seen in therapies like physical therapy or chiropractic therapy.

Acupuncture sessions should last anywhere from 45 minutes to 60 minutes depending on the required treatment. The first session, which includes a thorough consultation, typically lasts 60 minutes to 90 minutes.
